KWEKWE – In an extraordinary display of academic excellence, a Catholic nun, Sister Eva Zhorizho, made history at the recent Midlands State University (MSU) graduation ceremony, clinching an impressive 11 awards alongside a first-class honours degree.
Sister Eva, who teaches Arts and Humanities at Visitation Makumbe High School in Domboshava, was recognized as the Best Student in the Faculty of Education during the September 11 ceremony, where President Emmerson Mnangagwa presented her with multiple accolades. She stood out among more than 4,500 graduates, receiving repeated recognition throughout the event.
“It’s not luck; it’s God’s grace and blessings,” Sister Eva told Zim GBC News, reflecting on her unprecedented achievement.
She expressed deep gratitude for the support from her community and fellow sisters in the Little Children of Our Blessed Lady (LCBL) congregation, which has focused on empowering women and girls through education since its establishment in Zimbabwe in 1932.
The accomplished educator graduated with a first-class honours degree in Education and received a remarkable collection of awards including the MSU Book Prize, Vice-Chancellor Award, Professor William L Chigidi Award, Commandant Award, Econet Wireless Award, Coral Soft Award, Loveck Mafunga Award (which includes a full scholarship for a Master’s Degree), CBZ Award, Zinara Award, NetOne Award, and the Pizza Inn Floating Shield Award.
“I am happy for such an achievement,” she said, offering encouragement to other students.
“Stay focused and trust in God.”
Born in Chitomborwizi, Sister Eva attended local primary and secondary schools before joining the LCBL congregation. Her remarkable academic performance has inspired many across the educational community, demonstrating the powerful combination of faith, dedication, and intellectual pursuit.
