Dynamos 1 – 0 Caps United

HARARE – A first-half header from Jairos Kasondo was all Dynamos needed to secure a vital 1-0 victory over arch-rivals CAPS United in a tense Harare Derby at Rufaro Stadium yesterday afternoon, easing their relegation concerns and keeping bragging rights in the capital.

The match, played in a cagey fashion reflective of the high stakes, was decided just before halftime when Kasondo rose highest to meet a corner and powered his header home at the near post. The solitary goal propelled the Glamour Boys to 32 points on the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League log, drawing them level with their rivals.

Despite the pressure, the stands were a carnival atmosphere as fans from both teams turned up in large numbers to witness the clash.

CAPS United created several promising chances throughout the match but were let down by poor finishing, while Dynamos proved more clinical, converting one of their few opportunities into the winning goal.

The result means Dynamos’ Zambian coach, Kelvin Kaindu, remains undefeated in all competitions since taking charge of the team.

“The boys showed great character today,” a source close to the technical team stated.

“It wasn’t about flair, it was about grit and taking our chance when it came. This is a massive three points for us and the fans.”

While Dynamos fans celebrate into the night, the result serves as a stark reminder for both giants that the fight for top-flight survival is far from over, with just five games remaining in the season.
