BULAWAYO – A 38-year-old Emganwini woman has been remanded in custody after a shocking incident in which she allegedly poured boiling water on her sister’s maid, causing severe burns.

Privilledge Moyo appeared before Western Commonage magistrate Archie Wochiwunga on charges of physical abuse. The court heard that the alleged attack was unprovoked and left the victim, Bethia Moyo, with serious injuries to her face and chest.

“On 28 August, the accused suddenly grabbed a pot of boiling water from the kitchen and poured it on the complainant,” said Kufandikanwe.

The victim was rushed to United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH), where she remains admitted and is receiving treatment for her injuries.

Magistrate Wochiwunga remanded Privilledge Moyo in custody until September 17.

The court has ordered that she undergo a psychiatric evaluation by two doctors to determine her mental state at the time of the alleged offence.
