BEITBRIDGE – The community of Tshidixwa suburb in Beitbridge is in shock following a tragic murder-suicide incident involving a local businessman, Mr. Farai Longwe, popularly known as “Mr Grocery”, and his wife on Wednesday evening.
According to reports, the incident occurred just before midnight when Longwe locked himself in a bedroom with his wife and shot her dead before turning the gun on himself.
Beitbridge district police officer commanding, Chief Superintendent Mesuli Ncube, confirmed the incident and stated that investigations are ongoing.
“We have deployed a special team of detectives to the ground and I am yet to get full details. We will advise on further details at a later stage,” said Chief Supt Ncube.
Sources indicate that the police were alerted by the landlord who heard gunshots emanating from Longwe’s bedroom. The motive behind the tragic incident remains unknown at this stage.
Longwe was well-known in the community for operating a chain of grocery shops in Beitbridge’s western suburbs.
