HWANGE – ZESA Holdings has announced that Unit 3 at the Hwange Thermal Power Station has been taken offline for a mandatory 44-day statutory maintenance period, a move aimed at enhancing the unit’s long-term reliability and performance.
The maintenance began on Wednesday, 10 September, and is expected to continue until 24 October 2025. During this period, the power station will continue operating four other units to minimise disruption to the national grid.
In a public statement, ZESA Holdings acknowledged the potential impact on electricity supply and appealed for patience from its customers.
“We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and greatly appreciate your understanding and continued support,” the utility said.
“ZESA Holdings remains committed to improving supply reliability and ensuring a sustainable energy future for all our customers.”
The Hwange Power Station is a critical pillar of Zimbabwe’s energy infrastructure, and its periodic maintenance is essential for preventing prolonged breakdowns and ensuring stable electricity generation.
Regular statutory overhauls are necessary to maintain operational efficiency and extend the lifespan of the ageing power units.
