CHIPINGE – A 16-year-old Chipinge girl died instantly on Tuesday after being run over by the rear wheels of a moving Nissan UD40 truck from which she was attempting to disembark while the vehicle was in motion.
Eunice Madhlayazi of Mwanyisa Village, under Chief Musikavanhu, lost her life in the tragic incident that occurred around 11:30am near the eight-kilometer peg along the Checheche-Rimai dust road.
Manicaland Acting Police Spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka, confirmed the accident to Zim GBC News.
According to police reports, Shepherd Mariya (44) of Mariya Village was driving the white Nissan UD40 registration AFU 2382, which was carrying four passengers seated atop a load of river sand.
“As the truck was making a turn at the eight-kilometer peg, Eunice requested to disembark and suddenly jumped from the vehicle while it was still in motion,” said Assistant Inspector Chinyoka.
“The truck’s rear wheels ran over her, resulting in instantaneous death.”
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident which has left the Chipinge community in mourning.
