Minister of Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Judith Mkwanda Ncube, marked the 45th Zimbabwe Defence Forces Day following Heroes Day celebrations, honouring both the liberation war heroes and the current Defence Forces for safeguarding Zimbabwe’s sovereignty.
She acknowledged the sacrifices of those who fought for freedom and the continued commitment of the armed forces to protect the nation’s independence.
“On this occasion, we salute and celebrate the Zimbabwe Defence Forces for their commendable work in safeguarding and protecting the independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of our great motherland.”
She paid tribute to the founding members from ZANLA and ZIPRA in 1980, noting how the Defence Forces have evolved over the past 45 years to address modern national and global security challenges, emphasising pride in their service, adaptability to changing times, and the importance of upholding their duty and heritage.
“Looking to the future, I urge you, the officers, men, and women of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, never to forget your duty and heritage.”
The Minister praised the Zimbabwe Defence Forces (ZDF) for their continued role in national development and disaster response.
