BULAWAYO – A family was terrorized by four masked gunmen who ambushed them at their Emganwini home on Monday, fleeing with US$3,290, 250 rand, and the victims’ white Nissan Caravan, police confirmed.

The harrowing attack unfolded around 7 PM as the 39-year-old homeowner, his 36-year-old wife, and their 22-year-old nephew returned to their residence.

According to Bulawayo Provincial Police Spokesperson Inspector Nomalanga Msebele, the assailants – faces obscured by balaclavas and armed with a pistol – stormed the property moments after the family parked their vehicle.

“Before they could secure their gate, the accused ordered the trio to disembark. One suspect reversed the Nissan Caravan and parked it outside, while the other three force-marched the family into the house,” Inspector Msebele told Zim GBC News.

Inside, the robbers demanded cash, seized the money, then locked all three victims in a bedroom before escaping in the stolen vehicle.

The victims were later freed by neighbors, who alerted police. Inspector Msebele issued urgent safety advice:

“We urge the public not to carry large sums of cash, avoid disclosing financial movements, and remain vigilant for suspicious followers.”

A manhunt for the quartet is underway, with police appealing for tips to trace the suspects.

Safety Alert:

Inspector Msebele emphasized community cooperation:

“Report any information leading to arrests at your nearest police station. These criminals exploit moments of vulnerability.”
