Police have confirmed the death of 21-year-old Cowdray Park resident Thabiso Ndlovu, who ingested rat poison following an argument with his mother on 12 July 2025.
According to an official police statement released by Bulawayo Province Press and Public Relations Officer Inspector Nomalanga Msebele, the incident occurred around 1:00 PM when Ndlovu’s mother (41) admonished him for spilling two liters of cooking oil.
“The deceased became agitated after the warning and consumed rat poison,” stated Inspector Msebele.
“His mother witnessed him vomiting and immediately sought clarification, upon which he confirmed ingesting the poison.”
Emergency services transported Ndlovu to Mpilo Central Hospital where he was admitted. Tragically, hospital authorities contacted his mother at 5:40 AM on 14 July 2025 to inform her of his passing.
“The police are treating this as a sudden death by poisoning case,” confirmed Inspector Msebele.
Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident are standard procedure.
