Ecobank Zimbabwe has reopened its Parkade Center Branch in Bulawayo to the public, two months after a devastating robbery that resulted in the theft of over US$4 million.
The incident, which occurred on October 3, 2024, is considered the largest heist in Zimbabwe’s history if not Africa.
Six masked assailants disarmed the security team overseeing cash-in-transit vehicles parked outside the bank.
“We are pleased to announce that our Parkade Branch in Bulawayo will reopen… Our team has worked diligently to ensure the branch is ready to serve you again, and we look forward to welcoming you back,” Ecobank said in a notice to customers.
Ecobank Managing Director Moses Kurenjekwa assured customers that the bank has implemented enhanced security measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
“Following the recent armed robbery incident, we have implemented enhanced security measures, including increased surveillance, additional security personnel, and improved access controls to ensure a safe banking environment,” Kurenjekwa said.
Kurenjekwa also encouraged customers to utilize the bank’s digital banking channels, which provide a convenient and secure alternative for transactions.
“Our commitment to customer safety and satisfaction is unwavering, and we will continue to keep our community informed of any further developments,” he added.
