Tragedy struck in Bulawayo’s Central Business District when a dispute over touching meat at a braai spot turned deadly.
Tatenda Chida allegedly clashed with Sikhanyiso Bruce Dube, resulting in Dube’s fatal injuries.
Police Confirm Arrest
Assistant Inspector Nomalanga Msebele, Acting Police Spokesperson, confirmed the shocking details:
“On October 24, 2024, at around 0700 hours, a passerby discovered the deceased’s body… Five hours later, he checked on him and found no signs of life.”
Alleged Assault
Investigations revealed a heated row between Chida and Dube on October 22nd at 6 p.m. “A prolonged altercation ensued when the now deceased touched the accused’s meat… Chida kicked him once on the spinal cord and hit him once on the face with a clenched fist.”
Dube’s Fatal Injuries
Dube fell hard, hitting his head, and despite walking away with friends’ assistance, he later succumbed to severe head injuries and brain trauma.
Chida’s Confession
During questioning, Chida admitted to assaulting Dube, leading to his arrest.
Call for Peaceful Conflict Resolution
Assistant Inspector Msebele urged the public: “Let’s settle disputes peacefully. Violence is never the answer.”
Community Reaction
Residents expressed shock and concern over the braai spot altercation turning deadly.
“This senseless violence must stop. We need to learn to resolve conflicts peacefully,” said a local resident.
Another added, “Touching someone’s meat shouldn’t lead to loss of life. We must value human life.”
The incident highlights the need for conflict resolution and non-violent communication.
