Social media is currently abuzz following a significant typo on Lupane State University’s graduation program, where the word “University” was incorrectly printed as “Univervisity.”
This error occurred during the university’s 15th graduation ceremony, which was presided over by President Emmerson Mnangagwa, the Chancellor of the university.
Reactions and Criticism
The typo, found on the cover of the official graduation handbook, has drawn considerable criticism. Many are questioning how such a glaring oversight could have passed through the university’s communications department, which is reportedly staffed with IT and communications professionals. The failure to catch this mistake before printing has raised concerns about the institution’s proofreading standards.
Graduation Highlights
Despite the unfortunate blunder, the ceremony celebrated the achievements of 1,708 graduates, with female graduates comprising 59% of the cohort. Vice Chancellor Professor Pardon Kuipa praised the high number of female graduates and emphasized the significance of the event as the university marks its 20th anniversary.
The graduation was held under the theme “Celebrating Two Decades of Empowering Communities, Shaping Minds, and Creating Positive Futures for All,” aiming to honor the university’s legacy of academic growth, even as the typo cast a shadow over the occasion.
