The Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) has recently announced a targeted initiative aimed at social media influencers and celebrities to ensure compliance with the country’s tax regulations.
This move is part of a broader effort to align various sectors with the existing tax regimes.
Key Details of the Initiative
- Targeted Audits: ZIMRA will conduct on-site visits to assess compliance among influencers and other sectors, including accommodation, airlines, recreational services, and tourism. This includes a wide range of businesses such as hotels, lodges, Airbnbs, and travel agencies.
- Tax Compliance: Influencers are urged to submit any outstanding tax returns and make payments in their trading currency through the TaRMS system. ZIMRA has warned that delays in compliance could lead to penalties, interest, or even prosecution.
- Commitment to Accountability: This initiative underscores ZIMRA’s commitment to ensuring that all income streams, particularly those generated through social media, are accounted for within Zimbabwe’s evolving tax landscape.
ZIMRA emphasizes the importance of timely and complete submissions of tax returns, highlighting that all payments should be made in full and on time to avoid any repercussions.
