Authorities have arrested Tauya Mungate, a 40-year-old man, for allegedly beating his 13-year-old niece to death in Mungate Village, Chinhamora, Zimbabwe.
The shocking incident reportedly arose from accusations that the young girl had stolen a US$10 bill.
The assault took place on November 4, during which Mungate is said to have subjected his niece to a brutal beating using various objects, including a switch, a wooden broom, and a fan belt. These items inflicted severe injuries on the girl, leading to her tragic death.
Following the incident, local authorities announced that Mungate had been taken into custody. The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) confirmed the arrest and detailed the charges against him, stating,
“The suspect assaulted his niece (13) to death with a switch, wooden broom, and fan belt after accusing her of stealing US$10.”
The incident has sparked significant public outrage and raised concerns about child protection and family violence within the community. Many are calling for strict consequences for Mungate, given the severity of the crime.
As the investigation continues, law enforcement agencies are expected to build a formal case against the accused. Community leaders and child protection organizations are also emphasizing the need for increased awareness and resources to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
