In a disturbing case from Buhera, Sekuru Aaron Njuko, a 70-year-old man, has been sentenced to ten years in prison for the rape of a 7-year-old girl from his village.
The incident occurred on June 26th in Manicaland province.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), Njuko encountered the young victim while she was alone herding cattle. He lured her closer and then dragged her to a secluded area where the assault took place.
The crime was discovered when the victim’s sister, who was searching for her, caught Njuko in the act.
The swift action of the sister was crucial; she immediately reported the incident to the police, which led to Njuko’s arrest and subsequent prosecution. The NPAZ highlighted the importance of this report in bringing the perpetrator to justice.
This case underscores the ongoing issues of child safety and the need for vigilant community awareness to protect vulnerable individuals.
