A tragic incident occurred in Buhera, where a man accidentally shot himself dead while searching for his missing donkey.
The victim, Kumbirai Muguduru, aged 52, from Muguduru Village, Chief Nyashanu, was confirmed dead by the acting police spokesperson for Manicaland Province, Wiseman Chinyoka.
Circumstances of the Incident
The incident took place last Friday around 7 PM. Muguduru had returned home from Mashangana Business Centre at approximately 6:30 PM when his wife, Tendai Madzokorera, informed him that one of their donkeys was missing. In response, he took his homemade rifle and set out to search for the animal.
Muguduru left his homestead accompanied by his wife and uncle, Anyrose Musinake, who were heading to a prayer session in the same direction. However, he quickly returned home to fetch a torch. After running about 20 meters, Madzokorera and Musinake heard a gunshot. They rushed back to find Muguduru’s lifeless body in a pool of blood.
Police Investigation
Upon inspection, police discovered gunshot wounds on Muguduru’s right side of the abdomen and near the left collarbone. Following the incident, a report was filed at the Muzokomba Police Station for further investigation.
This unfortunate event highlights the dangers associated with homemade firearms and the importance of safety precautions when handling such weapons.
