A tragic accident occurred yesterday on the Bulawayo-Beitbridge highway in Gwanda, involving a South African-bound bus and a commuter omnibus.
The head-on collision resulted in the deaths of two individuals and left several others injured. Images from the scene have circulated on social media, showing the extensive damage to the commuter omnibus.

This incident has raised significant concerns among Zimbabweans regarding the increasing number of road accidents, particularly those involving kombis, buses, and haulage trucks. Many netizens are urging the Ministry of Roads and the government to take immediate action to improve road safety and prevent such tragedies in the future.
Heartland Coaches Bus Fire Incident
In a separate incident, a Heartland Coaches bus caught fire while traveling from Cape Town to Zimbabwe. The bus was completely engulfed in flames, leading to its total destruction. A video of the incident shows the bus ablaze, with thick smoke billowing into the night sky. Fortunately, no casualties or injuries were reported, although many passengers lost their belongings, including items stored in the trailer.
These incidents highlight ongoing safety concerns on Zimbabwe’s roads and the need for enhanced measures to protect travelers.
