Zimbabwe’s Mighty Warriors Receive Favorable Draw for 2024 COSAFA Women’s Championship

The Zimbabwe women’s national football team, the Mighty Warriors, have been handed a promising draw for the 2024 COSAFA Women’s Championship, scheduled to take place at the Nelson Mandela Stadium in South Africa from October 22 to November 2.

In the draw, Zimbabwe was paired with Lesotho and Mozambique in Group C, considered a relatively fair grouping.

“This draw gives us a good chance to progress to the semi-finals,” said Mighty Warriors coach Sithethelelwe ‘Kwinji 15’ Sibanda.

“We’ll prepare thoroughly to face Lesotho and Mozambique.”

2024 COSAFA Women’s Championship Groups:

  • Group A: South Africa, Namibia, Eswatini, Seychelles
  • Group B: Malawi, Botswana, Madagascar, Mauritius
  • Group C: Zimbabwe, Lesotho, Mozambique
  • Group D: Tanzania, Zambia, Angola

  • 14 teams participating, making it the largest women’s regional competition in Africa
  • Defending champions Malawi seek to retain title
  • Hosts South Africa aim for eighth championship win

Under Coach Sibanda’s guidance, the Mighty Warriors will aim to repeat their 2011 success.

“We’re focused on winning the tournament,” Sibanda emphasized. “Our preparations are underway, and we’re confident in our team’s abilities.”

The top team from each group will advance to the semi-finals.
