A Harare traffic enforcement officer, Eronia Payesa, and her family received a shocking surprise on Sunday morning when they woke up to find an empty coffin dumped in their yard, splattered with blood.
“We retired to bed leaving everything intact,” said Dumisani Mahahani, Payesa’s husband, in a police statement.
“It was Lauren Simango, our helper, who discovered the coffin while preparing to clean the yard.”
The mysterious incident occurred in New Msasa suburb, where the family resides. The coffin, measuring 160cm x 57cm, was found open with blood inside.
“The complainant’s son, Tinashe, was the last to enter the yard at 6:30 PM on Saturday, but he didn’t lock the gate,” said police.
The CID Forensic Unit attended the scene, and investigations are ongoing.
