A 35-year-old divorced man from Mutoko, Zimbabwe, has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for raping his biological daughters, aged 7 and 5. The man, whose name was not disclosed, was found guilty of two counts of rape, which occurred between December 2023 and March 2024.

According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), the accused would often have sexual intercourse with his daughters during the night or early morning before they left for school. The NPAZ also stated that the man had threatened his daughters not to disclose the abuse to anyone, exploiting his position as their father to maintain control and silence.

The horrific abuse came to light on March 18, 2024, after an anonymous tip-off prompted the local councillor to investigate. Upon questioning, the daughters revealed their traumatic experiences, leading to their father’s arrest.

The Mutoko magistrate handed down a 15-year sentence for each count of rape, to be served consecutively, resulting in an effective 30-year prison term.

This case highlights the need for increased vigilance and support for vulnerable children, particularly those in fragile family situations. It also underscores the importance of anonymous reporting mechanisms and community involvement in preventing and addressing child abuse.
