Epworth Woman Rape by Stranger After Husband Flees in Fear

A horrific incident occurred in Epworth, Harare, when a man abandoned his wife to be raped by a stranger after being threatened with a knife.

Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, spokesperson for the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), confirmed the case, saying:

“Police are investigating a rape case in Epworth. The accused person threatened to stab the complainant and her husband with a knife. The accused person then raped the complainant twice without protection.”

The attack happened around 10 PM as the couple walked home from Stopover Shopping Centre. The assailant confronted them, claiming to know the wife, who denied any acquaintance. The attacker became violent, and when the husband tried to intervene, he was threatened with a knife and ordered to leave. Fearing for his safety, the husband fled, leaving his wife to be raped.

Chakanza added:

“After the rape, the complainant failed to locate her husband and sought refuge at a nearby house. She later sought medical attention at Parirenyatwa Hospital for a medical examination.”
