Freeman Chari, an opposition activist and member of Pachedu, has admitted that their claims of manipulated election results in the 2023 harmonized elections were false.
Chari revealed that his tally of 84% of V11 forms showed President Mnangagwa winning with 52% of the vote, matching official results.
“We hoped CCC (Citizens Coalition for Change) would reject the whole election in toto. Unfortunately, some decided to go to Parliament and councils,” Chari wrote.
Educationist Dr. Augustine Tirivangana criticized Chari’s admission, saying,
“These naysayers have never peddled their own agendas. They have always been emissaries of agents of doom… They have suddenly seen the light or that they are renouncing their agency.”
Dr. Tirivangana also pointed out that SADC and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) have endorsed the election results.
Another analyst, Dr. Brain Sedze, accused Chari and Pachedu of being disingenuous, saying, “He is now coming out now because the person that they were banking on cannot be relied upon to take power… He does not have an institution, he does not have an ideology, he does not respect national emblems.”
Chari’s admission confirms the duplicity of opposition activists, who repeatedly undermined the credibility of the elections without providing evidence.
