There is excitement in the Zimbabwe Women Senior Cricket Team as they prepare for the upcoming tour of Thailand.
Coach Gray Brent said the team is set to play their first international match after almost seven months.
The brief International tour for the Lady Chevrons which comprises of three Women’s International T20s (WIT20) will take place at Terdthai Cricket Ground in Bangkok from April 19 to 23.
This tour will be the first Lady Chevrons tour to Thailand for a bilateral series.
Zimbabwe Women Cricket Team are expected to be in camp in Harare this week and have only two weeks to finalize their preparations ahead of their T20 series.
Lady Chevrons head coach Brent, is looking forward to a great start of the Asian country this month.
Despite playing an international series in September of last year, Brent is very happy with how the ladies have been performing during their Domestic campaign in both Women’s T20 Cup and Fifty50 tournament.
“The girls have been playing a lot of games to keep them in form and so far they did not disappoint. Many of our senior players have really set a great a example for our young ones to follow during those provincial tournaments which was fantastic to see,” said Gray Brent.
“The training camp is more of top up, just to make our game plans honed in, as a lot of the hard work has been done already from the beginning of the year during the Domestic campaigns,” added Brent.
The last time the Lady Chevrons played a game was in September 2022 at the International Cricket Council Women’s World Cup qualifiers in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
Ironically, during the qualifiers, Thailand was also the last team the Zimbabwean women faced and won the match by seven runs in a third place encounter, as they have failed to secure an automatic qualification among the top two.
“The Asians will be looking to redeem themselves and avenge their 2022 loss, and they also have home advantage, so the girls will be very careful and use every chance they will get to secure a win in Thailand,” said Gray Brent.
The first match will be on the 19th April followed by the second which will take place two days later and the final on the 23rd April.
This tour series will be a key figure for the Lady Chevrons as all the matches will carry ICC Women’s T20 International ranking points.
