Cricket has been previously termed as the sport for the elite due to it’s nature and requisite training facilities and expenditures which are quite high.
Zim GBC News engaged Lawrence Makwarimba who is an upcoming cricket player plying his trade for Bulawayo based Wholesale Beef Bulls Cricket Club who stated that the sport has helped him from engaging in criminal activities and the abuse of dangerous substances like drugs.
“Playing cricket has really helped me through taking me off from the streets as I spend most of my time practicing, training and playing the game. This therefore keeps me away from illicit behaviors such as drug and substance abuse.”Makwarimba said
The former Gifford High School student also told this reporter that he got involved with cricket when he was still in elementary school having been inspired by his brother, he also stated that he later evolved into a serious cricket player.
“I started playing cricket at a tender age when I was in primary school, when I graduated into secondary school my talent caught the eye of coach Kennedy Chanetsa.”He added
The right handed off-spin bowler is now part of the roaster of Wholesale Beef Bulls Cricket Club based in Bulawayo.
