ZRP RELEASES NAMES OF FATAL ACCIDENT VICTIMS, CONFIRMS ARREST OF WANTED MURDER SUSPECT

National – The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has released the names of seven individuals who lost their lives in two separate fatal road traffic accidents over the weekend, while simultaneously confirming the arrest of a wanted murder suspect following public assistance.

In a press statement issued on 3rd March 2026, the ZRP identified the victims of the crashes which occurred in Chiredzi and Nyabira on 28th February and 1st March respectively.

Chiredzi Tragedy
The first accident occurred at the 112 km peg along the Roy-Buffalo Range Road in Chiredzi. The victims, identified by their next of kin, are:

· Edmore Nhamo (34), a male adult of Tshovani, Chiredzi
· Thomas Ngandini (23), a male adult of Dekesa Village, Zaka
· Cathrine Mupunga (34), a female adult of Mupunga Village, Gutu

Nyabira Crash
The second fatal collision happened at the 54 km peg along the Harare-Chirundu Road in Nyabira. The identities of the deceased are:

· Beulla Mashinge (41), a female adult of Rusununguko Extension, Chinhoyi
· Anesu Prisca Mutepfa (43), a female adult of Rusununguko Extension, Chinhoyi
· Devine Muroyiwa (05), a male juvenile of Rusununguko Extension, Chinhoyi
· Munyaradzi Sosono (28), a male adult of Inkomo Barracks
· Mavis Takura (33), a female adult of Hunyani, Chinhoyi

Following the release of the names, the ZRP issued a stark warning to motorists.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police reiterates that motorists should exercise caution while driving on the country’s roads and abide by road rules and regulations to safeguard lives,” read the statement signed by Commissioner Paul Nyathi, Chief Staff Officer (Press and Public Relations).

Wanted Murder Suspect Apprehended

In a separate statement dated 2nd March 2026, the Police confirmed a major breakthrough in a murder case that shocked the Zaka community. Daniel Munyanyi (50), who was the subject of a manhunt following a shooting incident, has been arrested.

According to the ZRP, Munyanyi was captured at Nyika Area in Bikita, Masvingo, while hiding late on Sunday afternoon. Crucially, the arrest was effected not by police, but by members of the public.

“The firearm used in the commission of murder cases has also been recovered,” Commissioner Nyathi confirmed.

The ZRP expressed its gratitude to the community for their vigilance and cooperation.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police commends the people in Nyika for working together with the police to effect the arrest.”

Police have assured the nation that more details regarding the case will be availed soon.
