Gwanda Teenagers Remanded in Custody for Alleged Rape of Minor

Zim GBC News | Crimes and Courts

Two teenagers from Gwanda have been remanded in custody after appearing in court facing charges of indecent assault and rape against a 16-year-old girl.

Brighton Ndlovu (18) and Ntuthuko Moyo (19) from the Nhwali area appeared briefly before Gwanda regional magistrate Ms. Sithembiso Ndebele and were remanded to January 13.

Prosecutor Ms. Karen Gundani outlined the state’s case, alleging that on December 14, the accused lured the complainant from a party and took turns raping her.

“Ndlovu approached the complainant and proposed love to her but she refused,” said Ms. Gundani.

The court heard that later, Moyo allegedly deceived the girl, telling her that her grandmother wanted her home. After she left the party alone, the accused followed her.

“Ndlovu grabbed the complainant and kissed her by force… He then produced a knife and placed it on the complainant’s neck,” the prosecutor stated.

The state alleges Ndlovu raped the victim twice before Moyo also raped her as she tried to leave.

The accused allegedly threatened to kill the girl if she reported the attack.

She subsequently sought refuge at a nearby homestead, leading to the matter being reported to the police and the arrest of the two teenagers.
