BULAWAYO – Residents of Bulawayo must brace for a further period of inconsistent water supply after the CITY Council announced a delay in a critical upgrade project at the Umzingwane Pump Station.
In a public notice issued yesterday , the Office of the Town Clerk confirmed that the essential works, initially slated for completion on Monday, October 6, have been pushed back due to unforeseen setbacks.
The delays are attributed to challenges in the delivery of necessary materials and complications in the on-site fabrication processes.
Consequently, the city has set a new target for the restoration of normal water supply. The completion of the project is now pinned on the successful testing of all systems, which is scheduled for Friday, October 10, 2025.
“Inconvenience is sincerely regretted,” the statement from Town Clerk Mr. Dube read, acknowledging the frustration of residents and stakeholders.
During this extended period of works, the council has warned that water supply will remain “inconsistent.”
The distribution of water across the CITY will be strictly managed based on reservoir levels and their available capacity, meaning some areas may experience more severe shortages than others.
The CITY of Bulawayo emphasized that these upgrades are not just routine maintenance but are
“essential in enhancing pumping capacity and ensuring a more reliable water supply” for the future.
The long-term goal is to build a more resilient system for the “CITY of Kings.”
For now, residents are urged to continue practising extreme water conservation. As the notice concludes, “Water is life. Save every drop.”
The council can be contacted for further clarifications through the provided channels.
