Cabinet has received a promising progress report on the Five Miles Hwange Industrial Park, a major integrated project being developed by ZH Energy that is already contributing significantly to the national power grid.
The project, which was considered and noted during the Thirtieth Cabinet Meeting chaired by His Excellency President Dr. E.D. Mnangagwa yesterday, represents a substantial industrial investment in Hwange District, Matabeleland North Province.
According to the cabinet report, the industrial park has reached notable milestones, with the company having “an installed capacity of 100 megawatts, which it is already feeding into the national grid.”
This power contribution comes at a critical time when the nation continues to address electricity challenges.
Beyond energy generation, the project has also achieved substantial production capacity in other sectors. The report indicates current production levels of “250,000 tonnes of coke per year and cement production of 100,000 tonnes per year.”
When fully completed, the integrated industrial park is designed to significantly expand these outputs, targeting:
· A 235 MW coal power plant
· Cement factory producing 500,000 metric tonnes annually
· Coking plant producing 500,000 tonnes per annum
The development aligns with the government’s economic blueprint, described as being “in line with the National Development Strategy 1 and fulfills Zimbabwe’s Vision 2030 goals of promoting value addition and beneficiation, job creation, and Gross Domestic Production growth.”
The project’s current operational status and contribution to the national grid mark a significant step forward in Zimbabwe’s industrial development strategy, particularly in the energy and construction materials sectors.
