MUTARE – A major manhunt is underway for two teenage boys after a viral video depicted them sexually assaulting a younger schoolgirl in her uniform, sparking nationwide outrage and prompting an official police investigation.
The disturbing footage, which has been widely shared on social media, shows the two boys, believed to be Form Four students at a secondary school in Mutare District, taking turns violating the girl. The incident has ignited fierce public debate over the safety of children in schools and the need for urgent, strengthened protective measures.
Community activist Tafadzwa Chidawa, founder of the Matrix Disciplinary Training Camp, voiced the anger of many online, pleading for information to identify the perpetrators.
“Kana vasati vabatwa tipeiwo location tisvikepo izvozvi😭😭 +263774052143…..+263774734442,” Chidawa posted on Facebook, urging the public to come forward with any details that could lead to their immediate arrest.
In response to the public pressure, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has confirmed that an investigation has been launched.
“The ZRP has noted a viral sexual abuse incident involving school children which occurred recently,” read an official statement.
“The ZRP has dispatched a team to conduct comprehensive investigations in connection with the incident. More details will be released in due course.”
The case has highlighted growing concerns about peer-on-peer abuse and the role of social media in both propagating such crimes and mobilizing community action for justice.
