Zimbabwe Shines at 2025 World Athletics Championships

‎Zimbabwe’s athletic pride soared at the 2025 World Athletics Championships as a team of eight athletes delivered commendable performances on the global stage.

‎Competing with determination and skill, the athletes reaffirmed Zimbabwe’s growing presence in world athletics.

‎Tapiwanashe Makarawu led the charge with a 7th-place finish, followed closely by Makanakaishe Charamba in 9th.

‎ Long-distance runner Isaac Mpofu and triple jumper Chengetayi Mapaya both secured 10th positions in their respective events, showcasing Zimbabwe’s strength across different disciplines.

‎Corporate support also shone through, with Nedbank congratulating Isaac Mpofu for his performance.

‎ “When great preparation meets great performance! Heartfelt congratulations to Isaac Mpofu on achieving a Top 10 finish at the World Championships. We are proud to have supported your journey to this prestigious event,” the bank said in a statement.

‎In the heats, Tinashe Miller finished 8th while Vimbai Maisvorewa came 7th. Marathon runners Tendai Zimuto and Fortunate Chidzivo showed endurance and resilience, completing the grueling races in 61st and 53rd positions respectively.

‎Debutant Ashley Kamangarira also made her mark, finishing 37th out of 41 starters in the women’s 400m hurdles. Though she did not advance, her first appearance on the world stage was hailed as a promising start.

‎ “Keep your head up, Ashley. Looking forward to great outings ahead,” supporters encouraged.

‎The collective effort of the athletes highlighted the depth of Zimbabwe’s talent pool and reinforced the nation’s Olympic spirit.

‎ Mavanza Chioneso Mudzi, a rising athletics enthusiast, took to Facebook to applaud Team Zimbabwe’s efforts.

‎“Well done Team Zimbabwe, I really enjoyed watching them,” she posted.

‎While celebrating, Mudzi also expressed disappointment at the absence of a relay team despite Zimbabwe boasting talented sprinters.

‎ “It’s sad we didn’t have a relay team because we didn’t have enough runners, yet we have two good sprinters,” she wrote.

‎Looking ahead, she called for more investment and participation in athletics.

‎ “Let’s keep building and engaging so that we have even more athletes,” she added.

‎With such performances and growing support, the future of Zimbabwean athletics looks increasingly bright.

‎Zimbabwe’s spirited showing at the 2025 World Athletics Championships is more than just about results, it reflects a nation on the rise in global athletics.
