A dark cloud has hovered over the Zimbabwean football fraternity as Triangle United goalkeeper Ronald Mudimu died on Sunday evening at a local hospital.
He was 33.
Triangle United FC, the Sugar Sugar Boys, confirmed the death of Mudimu in a press statement.
“Rest In Peace Ronald Mudimu our goalkeeper, our vice-captain, one of our senior players”.
“We won a lot of trophies with you which include Chibuku Super Cup, NetOne Wallet Cup, we played CAF Confiderations Cup and enjoyed the African Safari, Today instead of celebrating our victory against Dynamos, we are now in tears”
The Footballers Union of Zimbabwe (FUZ) described Mudimu’s death as dark cloud upon the football family in Zimbabwe.
“A dark cloud has covered the football family. It is with great sadness that we learn of the sad passing of Triangle FC goalkeeper, Ronald Mudimu. We convey our sincere sympathy to the family, FUZ Members, friends, and the nation at large. We hope our words of solidarity will bring strength and Peace to the Mudimus in this time of bereavement.” said FUZ statement.
According to reports, Mudimu passed away at a local hospital where he was admitted after suffering a stroke last month.
The Triangle United vice-captain previously played for CAPS United and Motor Action.
He earned national caps at junior level when he features for the U17s.
Football fans paid tribute to the late professional footballer on social media.
“Rest In Peace our hero” Freddy Mugadza commented on tweeter.
