‎ Zimbabwe will join the rest of the world in celebrating World FootGolf Women’s Day with a major national tournament set for 27 September 2025 at Sherwood Golf Course in Harare.

‎The competition, awarded 100 ranking points by the Federation for International FootGolf (FIFG), is expected to attract players from across the country, including men, women, and youths of all age groups.

‎This Harare tournament forms part of a broader strategy to raise Zimbabwe’s profile in global FootGolf while giving local athletes a chance to secure valuable ranking points ahead of the 2026 FootGolf World Cup in Mexico.

‎ Zimbabwe FootGolf Association (ZFGA) President Daniel Kuwenga revealed that the organisation is pushing hard to introduce the sport in schools. He said engagements with the National Association of Primary Heads (NAPH) and the National Association of Secondary Heads (NASH) were already at an advanced stage.

‎“We are working with NAPH and NASH to adopt FootGolf into their schools’ sporting plans, and the process has reached an advanced stage,” revealed Kuwenga.

‎Kuwenga further explained that FootGolf rankings are determined by the accumulation of points, meaning participation in recognised tournaments allows players to gain international recognition.

‎“Ranking in FootGolf is through points. The points awarded mean our players are recognised internationally,” he explained.

‎The ZFGA President also highlighted the Association’s empowerment programmes targeting women, youths, and other groups to ensure inclusivity in the sport’s growth.

‎ “We have empowerment programmes for women, youth and everyone else. These programmes were established to ensure that these groups are specifically recognised in development through FootGolf,” highlighted Kuwenga.

‎However, he admitted that the sport still faces challenges, mainly because it is new to Zimbabwe. Many people are not yet familiar with it, but the Association is rolling out awareness and training initiatives to address this.

‎ “Our biggest challenge is that this is a new sport and people don’t know it. As an Association, we are running awareness and capacity-building programmes,” admitted Kuwenga.

‎This Women’s Day event follows Zimbabwe’s success in hosting the Harare Ladies Open and the Midlands Open in Gweru, which collectively brought in 200 ranking points. Looking ahead, the country is preparing for a high-profile 500-point international tournament in Victoria Falls, expected to attract foreign players.

‎With ranking points at stake and international recognition growing, Zimbabwe’s FootGolf community is steadily positioning itself as a strong contender on the global stage, using these tournaments to build momentum toward the World Cup.
