Zimbabwe men’s football team, the Warriors made it three loses on the trot when they lost to South Africa by a solitary goal nil in a 2022 Qatar World Cup Africa Qaulifiers match played on Wednesday night at FNB Stadium in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Bafana Bafana led early in the first half courtesy of Teboho Mokoena’s header in the 26th minute from a Keagan Dolly cross to beat Zimbabwe goalkeeper Petros Mhari.

South Africa dominated in the first half making it hard for the visitors to find the back of the net.

Zimbabwe offered sporadic threats through the craft of captain, Khama Billiat and the deft movement of Ishmael Wadi, but the interval arrived with the hosts still 1-0 to the good.

Fans expected a lot from the warriors skipper Khama Billiat but he failed to produce.

Zimbabwe should have levelled the game when midfielder Blessing Sarupinda was gifted a chance in front of an open goal on 49 minutes, but he somehow failed to hit the target  a raised offside flag somewhat spared his blushes, but it was still an astonishing miss.

Some big names in the Warriors squad who were missing in the match were Knowledge Musona, Tino Kadewere and Tendayi Darikwa due to injuries and other complications.

South Africa are on top group G with 13 points securing their strong position to advance from Group G to the playoffs.

In other group G match played yesterday Ghana drew 1-1 against the Ethiopians.

The Black Stars will face South Africa while Warriors face Ethiopia this weekend for their last match of the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qaulifiers.
