Eltah Nengomasha has resigned from her position as Director General of the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC), the regulatory body announced on Friday.

Nengomasha, who was appointed to the role in March 2023, had recently been reinstated after a year-long suspension for misconduct that began in March 2024. Although she had been serving a three-month notice period set to end in October, her departure comes earlier than anticipated.

In a farewell message, Nengomasha expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to have served my country in the realm of sports administration,” she said.

“I wish the sector all the best in its endeavours. Sport is richer because of the synergies created.”

The SRC acknowledged her contributions in a statement, crediting her with “strengthening governance structures and boosting stakeholder engagement” during her tenure.

Peter Mudzimiri, the Commission’s Director of Legal and Corporate Services, has been appointed Acting Director General with immediate effect.

The SRC confirmed that a process to recruit a permanent replacement will be announced in due course.
