A Bulawayo man who went on a spree to steal old make vehicles has been arrested.
The car thief targeted Mazda B-Series and Datsun range of vehicles.
These types of vehicles are renowned of their vesality as well as low fuel consumption.
Ignatious Sounds Mudzudzu (55) was arrested when he stole 3 types of these vehicles within a space of one month.
“On the 7th of February, one victim who works for Bulawayo City Council parked his Datsun (Nissan) at Tower Block at 1245hrs in the afternoon only to find it stolen from the car park when he knocked off duty.”
Again in the same month on the 20th of February Mudzudzu stole a Mazda B1800 which was parked at Fazak shop along JMN Nkomo Street. The car mysteriously vanished from the parking lot.
On the 4th of March another Bulawayo City Council employee suffered the same fate as his Mazda B1600 was snatched at Tower Block.
Provincial ZRP Press and Liason Officer Inspector Abednico Ncube said Mudzudzu was nabbed by police in Esigodini whilst driving one of the stolen vehicles along Falcon Road, in Esigodini 40 kilometres from Bulawayo.
Upon interrogation, Mudzudzu confessed that he had stolen the other two vehicles. He told the police that he sells his loot in the neighbouring Mozambique were they are still marketable.
He is currently under police custody and helping with investigations.
Insp. Ncube revealed that these type of vehicles are under the thieves’ radar.
Police are appealing to motorists to safeguard and apply techniques that protect their cars.
Use of steering locks, anti-hijack mechanisms have been advised by the police to safeguard motor vehicle.
