Bulawayo- The Zimbabwe Republic Police are investigating a fatal hit-and-run accident that claimed the life of a pedestrian along Khami Road near Mpopoma Drive Turn on 16 August 2025.
The victim identified as Melusi Ngwenya a male adult, was reportedly walking along the roadside around 5:30 PM when he was struck by an unknown motorist who fled the scene without rendering any assistance.
Melusi Ngwenya who was reportedly dressed in black jeans, a black T-shirt, and slippers, was seriously injured and rushed to Mpilo Hospital.
“He only managed to tell medical practitioners his name before succumbing to his injuries upon admission”, said the Deputy Press and Public Relations Officer, Assistant Inspector Thandekile Ndlovu.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police(ZRP) have urged the drivers to look out when driving and avoid running away after an accident. They are adviced to render assistance in anyway.
“We encourage drivers to exercise caution and avoid fleeing the scene of accidents. Render assistance where possible. Running away only worsens the situation”.
This case highlights:
•Ethical Responsibility of Drivers, beyond legal duties, there’s a moral obligation for drivers to assist injured persons and take accountability for their actions.
•Vulnerability of Pedestrians, pedestrians remain highly vulnerable on roads, especially in areas without proper lighting, sidewalks, or signage.
One act of kindness on the road could be the difference between life and death
