BIKITA – A 30-year-old man from Bikita is facing a rape charge at the Chiredzi Regional Court after his wife allegedly caught him sexually assaulting their nine-year-old daughter.
The incident reportedly occurred on July 5, 2025, when the mother had briefly left the homestead to collect vegetables from a garden, leaving her husband and sleeping daughter inside the house.
Prosecutors allege that the accused took advantage of the situation, sneaking into bed and raping the young girl. The mother returned to the house and reportedly discovered her husband on top of their daughter.
A police report was filed immediately following the incident, leading to the man’s arrest. He appeared before Magistrate Judith Zuyu, who remanded him in custody until next Wednesday for trial.
The case has sent shockwaves through the local community, highlighting the ongoing and urgent issue of gender-based violence and child sexual abuse.
The court proceedings will continue as the state prepares its case against the accused.
