Police, ZIMRA Launch Joint Crackdown on Luxury Vehicles

HARARE – In a major inter-agency operation, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) and the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) have launched a sweeping blitz targeting luxury vehicles illegally imported into the country without payment of requisite duty and taxes.

The operation comes in response to a noticeable surge of unregistered high-end vehicles on the nation’s roads, some of which authorities say are being used to facilitate criminal activities. Among the models under particular scrutiny is the popular Toyota Hilux GD6.

National Police Spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi, confirmed the operation, stating it is a critical part of a broader campaign to restore law and order.

“No one is above the law,” Commissioner Nyathi declared.

“We have an ongoing operation targeting vehicles without number plates, those without proper clearance, and others being used for criminal activities. This blitz is part of that wider effort.”

The police have vowed that the joint operation with the revenue authority will be sustained until all offenders are brought to book. The crackdown aims to clamp down on tax evasion and enhance national security by removing vehicles used for illicit purposes from the streets.
