BULAWAYO – The city of Bulawayo was thrust into a state of alarm on Wednesday following two daring armed robberies that occurred in a single night, with perpetrators making off with over US$30,000 in a seemingly coordinated crime spree.

According to police sources, the first incident targeted a businessman’s residence in the city centre. A female employee, carrying the day’s takings of US$1,000, was ambushed as she entered the unlocked flat.

“She went to her employer’s place of residence but did not find him home… As soon as she entered, six armed robbers appeared and demanded all the money she had. Terrified, she handed it over,” a police source revealed.

The six-man gang proceeded to ransack the property, ultimately locating and stealing a further US$25,000.

In a second, swiftly following incident, a microfinance institution located along Herbert Chitepo Street was targeted. The culprits successfully fled with US$7,000, bringing the night’s total losses to US$33,000.

National Police Spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi, confirmed the incidents.

“I can confirm that we had two armed robbery cases in Bulawayo yesterday. Police will share the finer details later in the day,” he said.

The identity of the robbers remains unknown as investigations continue. Police have urged residents and business owners to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity, while authorities have intensified patrols in the affected areas.

This is a developing story.
