Nikon Corporation officially launched the ZR a latest addition to its Z CINEMA series. This full-frame sensor camera is a game changer developed in collaboration with RED Digital Cinema marking a significant step forward for filmmakers and content creators combining advanced technologies to deliver high-quality imaging solutions in the media industry.
As the smallest model in the Z CINEMA series the ZR is designed for high-end productions and creative professionals. Weighing in at approximately 540 grams it allows for seamless portability with no compromise on performance. Its lightweight design makes it ideal for dynamic shooting environments enabling filmmakers to achieve high-quality results even with bare essentials.
At the heart of the ZR lies the innovative R3D NE file format derived from RED’s R3D RAW codec. This exclusive format ensures superior color accuracy and exposure standards providing two base ISO sensitivities ISO 800 and ISO 6400 with an impressive dynamic range of over 15 stops. The ZR supports internal recording of up to 6K/59.94p video making it a powerful tool for capturing stunning cinematic footage.
Nikon is making history by equipping the ZR with the world’s first 32-bit float audio recording capability. This feature is supported by both built-in and external microphones that ensures high sound quality across a broad range of environments. The built-in microphone utilises Nokia’s OZO Audio technology offering five selectable pickup patterns to suit various recording situations from interviews to live events and so on.
The ZR features a large 4.0-inch monitor with a resolution of approximately 3 070 000 dots and a brightness of 1000 cd/m². This display ensures excellent visibility even in bright conditions allowing filmmakers to confirm focus accurately and monitor their shots effectively.
Nikon’s advanced autofocus technology powered by its EXPEED 7 image-processing engine that utilizes deep learning AI to enhance subject detection and tracking. This capability allows for precise focusing on various subjects including people and animals or different kind of species improving the shooting experience.
The ZR incorporates efficient heat dissipation allowing for uninterrupted recording of up to 125 minutes under optimal conditions. This feature is especially valuable for events that require long takes such as weddings and concerts.
The ZR supports LUT monitoring allowing users to preview color grading effects directly on the LCD screen. In addition it integrates with Frame io Camera to Cloud facilitating quick and efficient data transfer for streamlined post-production workflows.
For the first time in a Nikon camera the ZR features a highly expandable digital accessory shoe. This advancement enables two-way communication with compatible accessories enhancing functionality and simplifying the shooting process smoothly.
