HARARE – In a plot twist that has set social media ablaze, Zimbabwean music star Baba Harare has dramatically announced his return to the Jiti genre, just a year after declaring his departure for gospel music was “the best decision” of his life.
The artist, born Braveman Chizvino, made the announcement in a characteristically bold Facebook post directed at his “Jiti family.”
“Good morning Jiti family. Shoko rakasvika. I am coming back to assume my rightful throne. Hazviite kuti musare musina baba. Album loading…” He wrote, signaling an end to his gospel chapter performed under the name King David.
This announcement marks a stunning reversal for the hitmaker behind anthems like Guzuzu and The Reason Why. His shift to gospel music last year was a major talking point, accompanied by a deeply personal spiritual conversion and the launch of a gospel album titled Repentance. At the time, he expressed a firm commitment to his new path, leaving many fans to believe the energetic sounds of Jiti were behind him for good.
Now, it seems the call of the dancefloor and the fervent wishes of his fanbase have proven irresistible. The proclamation that an album is “loading” confirms this is not a one-off single but a full-scale return to the genre he is credited with popularizing.
The news has been met with an avalanche of excitement and memes online, with fans enthusiastically welcoming the self-proclaimed “Jiti Father” back to his “rightful throne.” Many had expressed a longing for his signature social commentary woven into infectious, dance-driven rhythms.
While his gospel period produced popular tracks like Sukai with Takesure Zamar, the pull of his original sound has ultimately won out. The music industry is now watching closely to see how his recent spiritual journey might influence the themes and energy of his new Jiti material.
One thing is certain: the king of Jiti is back, and his kingdom is ready to celebrate.
