NYANGA – Acting President Dr. Constantino Chiwenga has emphasized the government’s commitment to designing investment programs that empower millennials, describing them as a dynamic generation crucial to Zimbabwe’s future. He made these remarks on Saturday while addressing the Roman Catholic Millennials for Christ gathering in Nyanga.
The event, which drew young Catholics from Borrowdale and Nyanga, focused on engaging millennials – those born between 1981 and 1996 – with their faith while addressing their unique role in national development.
Dr. Chiwenga, accompanied by Minister of State for Manicaland Provincial Affairs and Devolution Advocate Misheck Mugadza and other government officials, described millennials as “children of transition” shaped by digital revolution, economic reform, globalization, and social transformation.
“They are digital natives, with knowledge and information at their fingertips. This reality has sharpened their worldview and produced a dynamic generation, courageous, questioning and innovative,” said Dr. Chiwenga.
The Acting President, who was standing in for President Mnangagwa, highlighted both the opportunities and challenges facing millennials, noting their access to limitless knowledge and passion for justice while acknowledging struggles with isolation, economic instability, and technological overwhelm.
“Government, too, has responsibility in this journey. Our investments in education, health and community support are designed with you in mind,” Dr. Chiwenga stated.
“We want to empower you, equip you and create conditions where your God-given talents can flourish.”
Dr. Chiwenga emphasized the importance of faith as a compass for young adults, quoting Jeremiah 29:11:
“For I know the plans I have for you; plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
The gathering represented a core initiative of the Roman Catholic Church to engage younger members with timeless teachings while addressing contemporary challenges facing the generation that carries the promise of both church and nation.
