Dangote Reveals Regret Over Missed Arsenal Takeover as Club’s Value Soars

NEW YORK – In a revealing interview, Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, has expressed regret over his decision to prioritise his multi-billion dollar refinery project over a potential acquisition of English Premier League giants, Arsenal Football Club.

The Nigerian billionaire and known Arsenal supporter made the disclosure during an interview with Bloomberg in New York, explaining that the financial commitment to his Dangote Refinery project meant he had to let the opportunity to buy the club for an estimated $2 billion slip away.

“I believe that window has closed. The last time we spoke, I said that once the refinery was done, I would make a move for Arsenal. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to follow through,” Dangote stated.

With Arsenal’s current valuation now exceeding $3.4 billion, Dangote admitted the missed chance was a source of regret, but a necessary business decision.

“Actually, I regret not buying it before, but you know my money was more needed in completing my project (Dangote Refinery) than buying Arsenal. I would have bought the club for $2 billion, but I wouldn’t have been able to finish my project. So, it was either I finish my project or go and buy Arsenal,” he explained.

Despite conceding that a takeover now would be “more promotional than practical,” Dangote confirmed he remains a devoted fan of the North London club, stating he never misses a game.

The revelation has sparked significant discussion amongst business and football circles about one of the most notable near-acquisitions in recent sports history.
