NORTON, ZIMBABWE – The Katanga area of Norton has been plunged into fear and mourning following the discovery of two mutilated bodies this week, sparking concerns about possible ritualistic killings and raising alarms about a potential serial killer operating in the community.

The grim findings occurred on consecutive days, with both victims identified as local residents. The disturbing nature of the mutilations has left the community reeling and prompted urgent calls for increased police presence and improved street lighting in the area.

Official Response from Local Leadership

Norton legislator Richard Tsvangirayi described the events as “two very dark days” for the community in an emotional statement released Wednesday.

“I share in the deep sorrow and shock these events have caused. My heartfelt condolences go to the families who have lost their loved ones under such painful circumstances,” Tsvangirayi stated.

“Please know that your grief is our grief, and you are not alone during this time.”

The MP revealed he had personally visited the bereaved families to offer solidarity and had engaged directly with law enforcement authorities who have launched investigations into the deaths.

“Justice must not only be done, it must be seen to be done. We will not rest until answers are found and those responsible are held accountable,” he affirmed.

Disturbing Discovery Details

According to police reports, the first victim, 40-year-old Patrice Chipaumire, was found on August 25 lying along a footpath near Knowe-Katanga Road under horrifying circumstances. Authorities reported the body displayed “a deep cut on the throat, flesh removed from the right cheek and with the left arm and genitals mutilated.”

The following morning, the body of Jack Gedion was discovered nearby in a similarly mutilated state, intensifying community fears and speculation about ritualistic motives behind the killings.

Community Safety Measures

In response to the traumatic incidents, Tsvangirayi has called on police to increase patrols in Katanga to reassure residents and improve community safety. He also addressed the broader community directly, urging caution during this uncertain time.

“To the people of Norton, I urge you to remain vigilant and avoid unnecessary movements during late hours. While fear and uncertainty weigh heavily on us, let us not lose our sense of community. Let us watch over one another, support the grieving, and remain calm as investigations unfold,” Tsvangirayi advised.

Residents have additionally demanded improved street lighting in the area as a basic security measure to prevent further tragedies.

Ongoing Investigation

Law enforcement authorities have launched comprehensive investigations into both deaths, with forensic teams examining the scenes and conducting autopsies to determine the exact causes of death and potential connections between the two cases.

The community remains on high alert as police continue their investigations, with many residents expressing hope that the perpetrators will be quickly apprehended to restore a sense of safety to the area.
