BULAWAYO – The Environmental Management Agency (EMA) in Bulawayo is set to launch a province-wide environmental awareness and audit blitz from August 25 to 29, 2025, targeting both residents and businesses to promote sustainable practices and regulatory compliance.

The intensive campaign, part of a nationwide initiative, will combine educational outreach with enforcement actions, including roadshows, community clean-ups, and stakeholder engagements.

The blitz will focus on several critical environmental issues, including ensuring businesses hold valid operating licenses and settle outstanding bills, veldfire prevention, proper waste management to combat illegal dumping, and fostering community participation in environmental stewardship. Sectors such as mining, manufacturing, and retail will receive specific attention.

In a statement, a representative from the EMA Bulawayo Provincial Office emphasized the collaborative nature of the effort.

“This exercise is aimed at promoting environmental consciousness, sustainable practices, and compliance across Zimbabwe,” the official stated.

“We call upon all residents, businesses, institutions, and community leaders in Bulawayo to support and participate in this important environmental campaign. Together, we can build a cleaner, safer, and more resilient environment for future generations.”

The agency has urged the public to use the opportunity to regularize their operations and gain a better understanding of environmental regulations. Officials will be conducting audits and raising awareness on topical issues through various activities scheduled throughout the week.
