MADLAMBUDZI, Plumtree – A wave of shock and grief has engulfed the villages of Bella and Central in Madlambudzi following a horrific massacre on Wednesday, where a 43-year-old man went on a violent rampage, killing five people and injuring two others.
The suspect, Phamani Sibanda, who is believed to be mentally unstable, armed himself with a Mopani log, a blunt object, and a sharp weapon before attacking anyone he came across. The victims of the brutal attack include a 101-year-old man and a 6-year-old girl.
The deceased have been identified as:
· Elliot Khupe 101
· Butho Tshuma 97
· Constance Sibanda 66
· Tiffan Surprise Ndlovu 6
· Catra Matsika 72
In response to the tragedy, the Government has stepped in to provide burial assistance. Officials from the Bulilima district visited the grieving families to offer condolences and confirm the state support.
Onesimo Zogara, the Bulilima District Development Coordinator, conveyed the government’s message:
“We mourn with the families on this sad, unfortunate tragedy. Government is giving burial assistance through Doves, who are providing coffins, food and tents.”
The local community remains numb, with villagers describing the incident as a nightmare that will haunt them for years to come. Police investigations into the matter are ongoing.
