Mandizvidza, currently stationed at the Police General Headquarters Salaries Services Bureau Liaison Office, appeared before Provincial Magistrate Mr. Vakayi Chikwekwe facing serious charges related to his online conduct. The videos and statements, which went viral, contained content deemed treasonous and aimed at destabilizing state institutions.

Charges and Court Appearance The prosecution, led by Mr. Anesu Chirenje, outlined three charges against the officer:

  1. Causing disaffection among the Police or the Defence Forces: Relating directly to the content of his social media posts which allegedly aimed to undermine morale and loyalty within the security services.
  2. Fraudulently procuring the use of a vehicle: Details surrounding this specific charge are still emerging.
  3. Transmission of false data intending to cause harm: Pertaining to the dissemination of false information via social media with the alleged intent to create public alarm or unrest.

Magistrate Chikwekwe remanded Mandizvidza in custody until Monday, August 18th, 2025, when his bail application will be heard.

Police Reaction The case has drawn significant attention due to Mandizvidza’s position within the force. While official statements are anticipated, sources indicate the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) views the allegations with utmost seriousness.

“While we cannot comment on specifics of an ongoing case,” stated a senior police official speaking on background, “the ZRP has zero tolerance for any conduct, on or off duty, that brings the service into disrepute, undermines discipline, or threatens national security. Any officer found in breach of their oath and the law will face the full consequences.”

Prosecution’s Stance Prosecutor Chirenje emphasized the gravity of the charges during the brief hearing.

“The nature of the allegations, particularly those involving causing disaffection within critical security organs and spreading harmful falsehoods, represent a serious threat to public order and the integrity of the state,” Chirenje stated outside the courtroom.

“The state will be opposing bail on Monday.”
