The 2025 Chibuku Super Cup is back with a bang, and the action kicks off in true football fashion with two mouthwatering first-round fixtures at Kariba’s Nyamhunga Stadium.
Running under the theme “Famba nebhora shamwari! Tshay’ ibhola mngane!”, this year’s edition urges fans to stand behind their teams with unwavering passion, as Zimbabwe’s top-flight clubs lace up for glory in the nation’s most electric knockout tournament.
The battle lines are drawn from 6 September to 29 November, and if history is anything to go by, expect goals, upsets, last-gasp drama, and rising stars to light up the competition.
ZPC Kariba vs Chicken Inn takes centre stage on Saturday, 6 September. With 14 duels under their belt since 2016, it’s Chicken Inn who slightly tip the scales six wins to ZPC’s five, with three deadlocks. But stats are one thing form is another. Chicken Inn come into this clash with their tails up, riding a five-game winning streak, conceding just 0.8 goals per match.
ZPC Kariba, however, are limping in winless in five, though not goal-shy, with a 1.0 goal-per-game average. Can the home crowd in Kariba fire them up for an upset? Or will the Gamecocks peck their way into the next round?
Sunday, 7 September, brings the second showdown Herentals FC vs Highlanders FC. This one’s steeped in recent rivalry, with nine meetings since 2018. Highlanders dominate the scoreboard with four wins and 13 goals to Herentals’ single victory and seven goals. Four matches have ended all square.
But current form might just blur the stats. Highlanders are unbeaten in five, but Herentals are no pushovers either two wins in their last five, with a goal average of 1.6 per match, showing attacking intent.
As Zimbabwe’s premier cup tournament returns to the spotlight, the stakes are sky-high. Pride, momentum, and the dream of silverware are on the line. Kariba is ready, the fans are buzzing, and the Chibuku Super Cup 2025 is officially back on the pitch.
