Bulawayo– A heated argument over a missing cellphone ended in tragedy in Makokoba on Monday evening, leaving a 39-year-old man dead after he was stabbed during a family dispute.
According to the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), the victim, Melusi Tshuma, was accused by his 35-year-old uncle of stealing a missing cellphone. The confrontation quickly turned into a violent argument .
During the argument, Edmore Gabriel Moyo (32), another resident at the same house, allegedly intervened after overhearing the argument. Armed with an Okapi knife, he reportedly emerged from his room and stabbed Melusi twice in the left thigh before fleeing from the scene.
An ambulance was called, but the victim was pronounced dead upon arrival. His body was taken to the hospital for a post-mortem examination.
Police later arrested Edmore Moyo in the early hours of Tuesday, 13 August, after he returned home.
Inspector Nomalanga Msebele, the Press and Public Relations Officer, urged the public to avoid violence when resolving conflicts.
“We warn members of the public against using violence and encourage them to seek peaceful ways of solving disputes,” she said.
The incident has once again highlighted the dangers of unresolved tensions and the need for better conflict resolution within families and communities.
