HARARE – Zimbabwe recorded a sharp increase in road accidents and fatalities during the 2025 Heroes and Defence Forces holidays, with 24 lives lost and 96 injured in just three days, according to the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP).
Alarming Statistics

“Reckless driving, speeding, mechanical faults, and dangerous overtaking were major contributors,” stated Police Commissioner Nyathi in a press release. “We urge motorists to prioritize vehicle servicing and adhere to road rules to curb this senseless loss of life.”
